FAQs: Sony EMCS Scholarship

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Hi there! Pheww! it's been awhile (a really long one, actually) since my last blog post. I'm still alive, thankfully, just that I kinda lost my "interest" in writing blog post. But I know deep down inside I did miss the old good days I spent with Blogger.com... Editing its html, css, & js scripts.. Making it look pretty.. And writing a blog post which some of them makes me cringe when I was trying to read back them these days~ ( ̄y▽, ̄)╭

Oh well, speaking of blog posts, I am very thankful that my two blog posts in 2016 related to Sony EMCS Scholarship; [Aptitude Test] & [Interview] got a lot of hits. And the hits keep on increasing year by year. I am really glad these two posts achieved my objective of sharing in the first place: to help others who're going to sit for the test or/and going to the interview as during my time it was hard to find posts relating to this particular scholarship.

These two posts also got a lot of comments, and some of the readers even contacted my via email, twitter, (some even asked for my IG and personal number ( ̄▽ ̄)"  ). Some reached me out to express their gratitude (you're welcome, dears), and some were asking for additional info, tips, etc. Most of the time I will try to reply and be as helpful as I can be, but sometimes I might missed to reply your inquiry due to other commitments (when reading your messages) and ended up forgetting to reply / replying late. I also just realized yesterday I didn't get any notification from Blogger anymore when there's a new comment (IDK why.. So sorry ya if I didn't reply your comments here!). The only reason I checked the blog again because this week I received 2 new emails related to Sony EMCS Aptitude Test inquiries.. Then I realized.. It is the time of year again..
For. the. aptitude. test.

Sooooooo here we are, I decided to write a blog post to compile Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that I've received from the readers for the past 3 years.. ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)

A) Aptitude Test

  1. "Where can I get sample questions?"
Well, actually, I did include some links to sample questions at the end of original post.. Perhaps you missed it. Just in case, let me share again those links here:
    Psychometric test & answers
    Data interpretation practice
    Verbal - comprehension practice

ps:/ Just click those links above and after 5 seconds, you can skip the ad & obtain the sample question. Your clicks then will earn me few extra cents.. Hope for your kind understanding. Thank you very much! :)

Or, if you meant where I can find more sample questions.. Then you can just try Google with related keywords such as "IQ test sample questions", "Psychometric test sample questions", etc.. There you should be able to get want you wanted. Good luck!

  2. "Is the test REALLY hard?"
For me, I won't say it was REALLY hard but yes, it was indeed quite challenging. That's why I advise, please, do some practices before coming to the real test so you can prepare yourself on what to expect for the test.. Remember, practice makes perfect!!

  3. "Did you passed the test?"
Alhamdulillah, yes I did! I actually also shared my interview experience [HERE]. Please have a look! :)

  4. "What is the dress code for attending the test?"
Short answer: Smart casual should be fine.. ;)
Additional info: Even in Sony EMCS, our working dress code is smart casual. For the test, no need to overdress, but still, be neat. Because it is only the aptitude test stage. What matters the most is how you answer and tackle those questions~

  5. "Do I need to bring anything else other than stationery?"
No, you don't have to. There'll be an attendance list passed around & you just need to sign it as a prove you attended the test.

B) Interview

  1. "Out of the 30 candidates, do you know how many passed the interview and became scholars?"
First of all, out of 30 candidates, I don't know how many were selected. Because I think each department has its own allocation. What I can say for sure, during my time, for my department, software, there were 5-6 candidates and I'm the only one chosen alhamdulillah.

  2. "Is there any quota for each university?"
I'm not really sure about this  but I don't think there's quota based on which university you're from. You performed well, you'll get it. InsyaAllah, if God's will.

  3. "Any additional tips to excel the interview?"
Wow. This one needs a long answer. But for the sake of not turning this blog post into an essay, here some extra quick tips:
    - You can prepare answers for typical interview questions and practice speaking them with your friends/family or even in front of a mirror.
(pro tips: don't fully memorize the whole sentences, instead, just remember the key points of the sentence & what do you really try to convey with those sentences).
    - Follow the interviewers' flow. If they're using full English, try your best to speak in full English too. If they use rojak, then you can rojak too. But just in case you're totally blank about a certain English word, then just speak out the Malay word. InsyaAllah the interviewers will understand but please, don't keep doing it. Just safe it as your last resort.
    - Instead of going "ahhhh", "ermmmm", etc while answering a question, it is better to pause your talking for a while, arrange your sentences in your mind first, and then speak them out clearly and confidently.
    - Finally, be yourself. Don't lie just to impress the interviewers. But at the same time try not to be too honest as it may lead you to seems silly/unprofessional.

That's it I think. All the best! O(∩_∩)O

  4. "I am not confident with my English skills. What should I do?"
You need to find someone who's encouraging and can help you to practice your English. It could be your family or friends. Converse with them in English, perhaps, at least once per day. Now that you've converse in English regularly, it should be able to boost your confidence to speak in English! Fighting! ヾ(≧ ▽ ≦)ゝ

C) General/Others/Miscellaneous

  1. "Did you get the scholarship?"
Alhamdulillah, yes, I did! And actually I'm currently working for them to serve my bond. As I'm writing this blog post, it is already about 3 months since I started working.. So far everything's great. I learn a lot every day, and my supervisor and Head of Department are really supportive that I'm honestly really thankful about that. (T_T)

  2. "How can I contact you if I got other questions?"
I advise you to go through this FAQs and comments from those two original posts because I might not be able to reply you promptly.. Just in case I replied you when indeed you're already done with your test/interview.
    >﹏<
But then, if you really wanna to hit me up for anything else, perhaps some extra tips or advises, sure, you can email me at aiman_april@yahoo.com.my (Please introduce yourself a bit, & put subject on your email so I know it isn't a spam). Also if you prefer informal way, you can find me on twitter @_kakmon .

So that's it.. I think we're done here. Hope this post will be helpful too as the other two blog posts did.

Cheers and all the best!!
o((>ω< ))o

kind regards,
