Sony EMCS Scholarship Interview 2016

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

[Update October 2019]
Hola amigos! I noticed this post got a lot of hits year by year. And throughout the 3 years, some of the readers reached me out to ask some additional info. So I decided to created a FAQs post for this particular scholarship.
Do check it out after reading this post!!

---------------

Hi everyone! This one post is looong way overdue as I've attended the interview back in my midsem break - 3rd of November precisely.

So my last midsem break was kinda hectic as even though I went back to Kedah, during the holiday I went to Selangor twice! The first one was to Stadium Shah Alam to watch Piala Malaysia Final, which, alhamdulillah Kedah won! Ω©(ΛŠα—œΛ‹*)و  #PulunKedahPulun.

And the 2nd time, of course, to Bangi for Sony EMCS Scholarship Interview 2016.

Kedah menang woi!!!

For those who read my previous post, Sony EMCS Scholarship Aptitude Test 2016, this is the Part #2 of it. Alhamdulillah, I get called to attend the interview on 24th of October, which, surprisingly quite earlier that promised date (early/mid Nov). Anyway, thank you very very very (read: neomu neomu neomu) much for everyone, who prayed for me. ╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯

So to cut the story short, I went to Bangi the day before, by taking ETS to KL Sentral and then from there I took commuter and drop off UKM station. Note for those who's unfamilar with commuter/train: the nearest KTM Station to Sony EMCS is UKM Station, not Bangi Station. At first I also thought like that, luckily my friend whom let me stay 1 night at her shared rent house (special shoutout to Shahirah Zamri & Mariam!!) told me 'bout it.

D-day.

  • I went out at around 8.30am and booked a GrabCar, which took less than 10 minutes to arrive.
In front of my friend's apartment, waiting for GrabCar

  • Arrived at Sony EMCS around 8.45am-8.50am. (Fare: RM7)
  • Unfortunately it was the wrong one!! I went to the one with R&D signage (which actually, the future office for those selected as Sony EMCS scholars). \(>o<)γƒŽ
  • Called another GrabCar, went to the correct building at around 9AM-9.15AM. (Fare: RM 4).
  • The distance between these 2 buildings are not that far (by car) but walking, yup. and I can't afford to let myself coming late in sweaty condition.
  • Registered myself Guard House B (left side of the building) & the guard gave me a shoe cover & a tag.
  • Wore the tag and went to the waiting room.

Kinda frustrated I got the photocopied one as majority got the one with colour 。・゚(゚⊃Ο‰⊂゚)゚・。

  • 2 PIC came in around 9.30AM. Asked us to wear the shoe cover, which some of us already did. (Not me tho, as frankly at first I didn't have a clue what is this blue-plastic-crumpled-into-ball-thingy. Noob!)
Sony really control their quality. Thumbs up!

  • Interview session started around 10AM. We were being called based on our designated department.
  • As for me who's taking Software Engineering, I was assigned to R&D Center - Software department.
  • Every department has its own way of interview. Some we need to enter the interview room in group, and some are individually.
  • As for my case, it's INDIVIDUALLY! (*゚∀゚*)
  • There are 5 candidates for my department, and I'm the fourth.
  • My turn came around 10.40AM, I went in & inside the room there were 2 department's bosses and 1 PIC from HR department, I think.
  • The bosses are Chinese (Mr. Tan) & Mamak (I think) or perhaps a foreigner (his name's Mr. Muzzafar). At first when I heard his name I thought he's a Malay. *LOL
  • Some questions being asked:
    • Tell me about yourself. (This is a really famous question.)
      • My tips:
        • start off with a little bit about your background (just a little, because they actually already had these info).
        • Then tell them about your university life. Tell them about any competition/workshop/organization etc that you've joined.
        • Your passion.
        • What you've been working on outside class (business, etc).
    • When you're working on something, and stumbled upon a difficulty, what will you do?
    • Tell me about your strengths & weaknesses. (Another standard question. Make sure you answer it well tho, and please, be honest but not foolish.)
    • Why don't you want to work for Government just like your mom? They got stable life, fixed office hours....
    • Any questions?
      • Ask! Don't be shy. It is the sign you're really interested.
  • The interview only lasted for about 15 minutes. I went back to waiting room.
  • Oh yes, the waiting room is super awesome! γƒΎ(●・◇・●)γƒŽ They provided us with pantry which we can make ourselves breakfast. During that time there were Nestum, milo, coffee, and biscuits too!
  • Indeed I'm too nervous to make myself one tho. Only after the interview session done, I made myself a cup of Nestum. 。(*^▽^*)γ‚ž
  • After I finished my Nestum, few minutes later one of HR PIC came to me and told me my session was done.
  • I was like "WHAT? THAT'S IT?!" inside my head. He said they will contact me back in 2 weeks time with the result.

I started to walk out the building while feeling frustrated & thinking what went wrong... (−_−;)Do I failed to impress them with that short, given time? I keep assuming there was another "stage" after the interview session as it is impossible to be that simple only. At the same time I tried to cheer myself by saying you've done your best.. Coming all this way. Being top 30+ candidate (there were 30+ candidates that day, only 2 from UTM, and only 5 females). I called another GrabCar and went straight to UKM KTM station (fare: RM 7) and went to KL Sentral.. Decided to lepak at NU Sentral, watched Dr Strange and ate at TCRS (consoling myself) (ΰΉ‘-﹏-ΰΉ‘) and went home with only RM 5 on my wallet....  ( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥́⌢⚈̥̥̥̥̥̀)
