FAQs: Sony EMCS Scholarship

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Hi there! Pheww! it's been awhile (a really long one, actually) since my last blog post. I'm still alive, thankfully, just that I kinda lost my "interest" in writing blog post. But I know deep down inside I did miss the old good days I spent with Blogger.com... Editing its html, css, & js scripts.. Making it look pretty.. And writing a blog post which some of them makes me cringe when I was trying to read back them these days~ ( ̄y▽, ̄)╭

Oh well, speaking of blog posts, I am very thankful that my two blog posts in 2016 related to Sony EMCS Scholarship; [Aptitude Test] & [Interview] got a lot of hits. And the hits keep on increasing year by year. I am really glad these two posts achieved my objective of sharing in the first place: to help others who're going to sit for the test or/and going to the interview as during my time it was hard to find posts relating to this particular scholarship.

These two posts also got a lot of comments, and some of the readers even contacted my via email, twitter, (some even asked for my IG and personal number ( ̄▽ ̄)"  ). Some reached me out to express their gratitude (you're welcome, dears), and some were asking for additional info, tips, etc. Most of the time I will try to reply and be as helpful as I can be, but sometimes I might missed to reply your inquiry due to other commitments (when reading your messages) and ended up forgetting to reply / replying late. I also just realized yesterday I didn't get any notification from Blogger anymore when there's a new comment (IDK why.. So sorry ya if I didn't reply your comments here!). The only reason I checked the blog again because this week I received 2 new emails related to Sony EMCS Aptitude Test inquiries.. Then I realized.. It is the time of year again..
For. the. aptitude. test.

Sooooooo here we are, I decided to write a blog post to compile Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that I've received from the readers for the past 3 years.. ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)

Why?

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Sometimes I started to ask myself, why do I took Software Engineering? If before this, I can confidently said because I love programming.... But now, on my 4th semester here.. Ayyy sooo many documentationSSSSS. Software Requirements Specifications(SRS), User Requirement Document(URD), use cases, activity diagrams, swimlane, etc etc... the list continues. JUST GIVE ME WORKS IN DEVELOPMENT == PROGRAMMING AND I'LL BE A HAPPY WOMAN chusseyooooo. T.T

This thingy is currently trending on twitter & I felt the urge to share here. hewhew.

now nowww. i really need to wrap this up and continue with SRS which the due is tomorrow!!!!!!

Guess who just got her very first medal???

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Alhamdulillah, all thanks to Allah, we, Haikyuuu sub-team, (dah macam kPop pulak ada sub-unit bagai lol) won 2nd runner-up award aka bronze award for Best Design award during UTM HCI Day 2016.

ヽ(´∇´)ノ (∇´ノ) ヽ(   )ノ (ヽ´∇) ヽ(´∇`)ノ

Which is, quite funny as I am the PIC for prizes preparation (preparing the medals, hampers) & ended up I'm being one of the winner. (☞゚∀゚)☞ well maybe the medals & hampers doesn't want to be separated with me, as we spent days together inside my college room prior to HCI Day. XD

Regardless, frankly, before the day came, I sorta put my hope high, aiming to get the medals. But, on the HCI day, after seeing other participants' idea and their presentation, I felt like, "Alright nevermind. it's ok if we're not winning this. At least we've tried our very best and gain as much experience as we can." (◕ω◕)

Anyway, it's our rezeki. Congrats Yohga & Imani! Our hard work paid off. Next, Haikyuuu for Gold!! Fighting! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

Also, shoutout to Dr Azman, our HCI lecturer for guiding us to think outside the box.

A dedication

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Alhamdulillah, mabruk alaik to my one & only sister, Ms. Nurul Aufa Ab Majid for your 5 years long fight (including foundation studies) at UNIMAS! I bet there were times you shed tears and sweats but not even once you showed it to me. You're such an amazing person, remarkably proved that getting a C+ (eh ke B+) for addmath during SPM doesn't mean you can't pursue and hold a degree in engineering. A lovable senpai, and a friendly friend; how we're really different on that aspect 😂

Getting on my 2nd year of study & facing more and more challenging subjects, I hope I won't lose my way. If I ought to fall somehow along my way, I pray I'll stay tough as you did. You're my inspiration.!

Last but not least, all the best for your SL1M training! Mudah2an badan pun bertambah SLIM ler. 😜
Kihkih.

Sony EMCS Scholarship Interview 2016

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

[Update October 2019]
Hola amigos! I noticed this post got a lot of hits year by year. And throughout the 3 years, some of the readers reached me out to ask some additional info. So I decided to created a FAQs post for this particular scholarship.
Do check it out after reading this post!!

---------------

Hi everyone! This one post is looong way overdue as I've attended the interview back in my midsem break - 3rd of November precisely.

So my last midsem break was kinda hectic as even though I went back to Kedah, during the holiday I went to Selangor twice! The first one was to Stadium Shah Alam to watch Piala Malaysia Final, which, alhamdulillah Kedah won! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و  #PulunKedahPulun.

And the 2nd time, of course, to Bangi for Sony EMCS Scholarship Interview 2016.

Kedah menang woi!!!

For those who read my previous post, Sony EMCS Scholarship Aptitude Test 2016, this is the Part #2 of it. Alhamdulillah, I get called to attend the interview on 24th of October, which, surprisingly quite earlier that promised date (early/mid Nov). Anyway, thank you very very very (read: neomu neomu neomu) much for everyone, who prayed for me. ╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯

So to cut the story short, I went to Bangi the day before, by taking ETS to KL Sentral and then from there I took commuter and drop off UKM station. Note for those who's unfamilar with commuter/train: the nearest KTM Station to Sony EMCS is UKM Station, not Bangi Station. At first I also thought like that, luckily my friend whom let me stay 1 night at her shared rent house (special shoutout to Shahirah Zamri & Mariam!!) told me 'bout it.

D-day.

---------------

Hi everyone! I rarely posted bout personal experience these days but I really think I need to share this because I myself used to have hard time finding and googling others' experience bout Sony EMCS Scholarship Aptitude Test.

So yesterday, I sat for the test. Alhamdulillah, I actually really thankful to Allah for opening Sony's heart to accept my application. Frankly, Poslaju messed up with my application form postage and it arrived to Sony AFTER the due date passed. Back in time when I knew bout it, I felt kinda frustrated, but I'm not fully blaming Poslaju because I also finished up preparing the form and all the documents near the end of application date. In fact, I posted 'em on Thursday, when the due date was on Friday. Yup, TOMORROW of it! But I posted 'em in the morning, and the person in charge at the Poslaju counter said it will arrived tomorrow. ----TADA! It "safely" arrived Sony on Sunday/Monday ((not quite remember already)). So moral of the story, send your form EARLY and AVOID USING POSLAJU(?).

Back to the topic, so for this time, Sony itself came to UTM for the test and the participants were only UTM students, so I guessed they did the same for every uni, maybe? I've read some blog posts (but that's in 2013 and former) they need to come to Sony EMCS at Bangi themselves to take the test. Sooooo, Thank you Sony! & You just need to bring pencil & eraser for the test. NO CALCULATOR IS ALLOWED! huhu.

There are 3 sets of tests:

personal blog #10 - I'M A LOSER

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

being afraid of what others might think about you is just a unworthy, useless feelings for losers. I'm always telling myself that, but some of the time I'm just...a LOSER. I'm afraid of what people may talk about me, as I'm "not living up my potential," I'm "wasting my intelligence," I'm "taking useless course," & so on. Frankly, someone used to talk to me like that. THESE kind of thoughts are sometimes, also what I'm thinking about myself. In other hand, on the other time. I know is it not real, (is it?)

I'm just doing what I love, what I will enjoy when I'm working later in future insyaAllah. It is just cliché for someone who got straight A's in SPM....4.00 in foundation in engineering NEED to futher on ENGINEERING OR MEDIC ONLY.

SOMEHOW, sometimes, I'm just a SORE LOSER, feeling ashamed to tell others what am I studying for degree, if being asked. BUT some other time, I can tell 'em loud & proudly. Bcoz I'm living up my own live, no pressure.

"YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME LEARNING CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, ADD MATH..."

NO I DON'T! I LEARNT 'EM FOR THE SAKE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, LILLAHI TAALA. TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE, TO KNOW ALLAH BETTER. WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?!

Please, I need prayers from whoever reading this..to pray for me. May I stay strong with the path I've chose, no matter what other negative people talks.  Thank you in advanced. May Allah bless your life.

No, i'm not being 'riak' or proud by telling you I got excellent past academics records, I just need....to confess this to someone. to write 'em all out. To clear my head 'bout this thing, hopefully.

programming tips #1 : conditional expression (for c & c++)

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

frankly, i'm inspired to share this on my blog bcoz on this evening, i got programming test and.... i'm stucked at this question. lol! never expect this one to be questioned on test... T.T k, my bad..

after finishing the test & went back to my room, i started to do some coding bout it to understand more. and now here i am, wanting to share to you all what i got.

so, first of all. what is conditional expression?  well, it is an expression that use conditional operators.

conditional operators are basically  ? and : symbols.

what are they used for?
they are used to simplify or shorten if...else statement.

how?
here's the syntax >>
condition ? true case : false case

comparing it with an if..else statement;

if(condition)
   true case;
else
   false case;

got it? yes? congrats, fast-learner!

no? it's ok, let's move on with a simple example..

suppose there's a if...else statement;

if(marks>50)
   pass++; //increase number of student passed by 1
else
   fail++; //increase number of student failed by 1

converting this using conditional expression;
marks>50 ? pass++ : fail++ ;

condition before the ? will be tested. if true, execute pass++ (statement between ? and :). else, execute fail++ (statement after :) .

next example.. printing output.
from;

if(weight>65)
   cout<<"Fat!!";
else
   cout<<"Gorgeous!";

from what we had learnt before, converting this using conditional expression;
weight>65 ? cout<<"Fat!!" : cout<<"Gorgeous!" ;

but! there's a simpler way of doing this;
cout<<(weight>65 ? "Fat!!" : "Gorgeous!") ;

note that the second way we need to put brackets so the compiler will give priority to the conditional expression first.

same goes in c language;
from;

if(weight>65)
   printf("Fat!!");
else
   printf("Gorgeous!");

converting to conditional expression;
mark>50 ? printf("PASS") : printf("FAIL");

or putting the conditional expression inside printf;
printf(mark>50 ? "PASS" : "FAIL");

note that for the second way we did not need to put extra bracket (comparing to c++). bracket from the printf is enough.

all of examples above are the simple ones. of course, those that went out in my exam earlier is much more complicated. ~.~

such as (using c++):

if(cpa>3.0)
{
   if (cpa>3.5)
      cout<<"Dean's List";
   else
      cout<<"Second Class";
}
else
{
    if(cpa>2.0)
       cout<<"Passed";
    else
       cout<<"Failed!";
}

converting to conditional expression;
cout<<(cpa>3.0?cpa>3.5?"Dean's List":"Second Class":cpa>2.0?"Passed":"Failed");

if you compare both thoroughly, you can see that is just follow the flow as the if....else statement. line by line. and this is the example for nested if...else.

last example,
(using c language);

if(height>170)
{
   printf("So tall!") ;
   tallpeople++ ; //increase number of tall people by 1
}
else
{
   printf("Hi shorty.") ;
   shortpeople++ ; //increase number of short people by 1
}

converting to conditional expression;
height>170 ? printf("So tall!") , tallpeople++ : printf("Hi shorty.") , shortpeople++ ;

or

printf(mark>50 ? "So tall!",tallpeople++ : "Hi shorty.",shortpeople++);

this example is actually for if...else with compound statements. we just need to put comma ',' between these statements.

final note, spaces between conditional operators are not necessary, but it'll make your coding easier to read.. as malay words, "sedap mata memandang" :3

that's all for tonight. hope this helps to enhance your knowledge. ^^

till we meet again!

c++ programming source code sharing #1 : CALCULATE API VALUE (my midterm exam's answer)

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

So today, I would like to share with you all, my midterm exam's question and sample answer. The answer for this question is not yet discussed in class, so the one I share here is the one I wrote during the exam, with some modification was done later. oh yeah, i'm using Dev-C++ ver 5.11 IDE.

even though haze prob is almost nil right now in Skudai, all thanks to Allah for these past 1-2 days heavy rain.. it's still not a crime to post some haze-related coding, rite? :v

INSTRUCTIONS:
Write a C++ program to calculate the accurate API value and determine the status of the air quality.
The program should perform the following steps:

a. Ask the user to enter the number of locations that will be read from an input file (maximum
number of location is 10). Example runs of the program are shown in Figures 1(a), 2(a) and
3(a). Note: The bold texts in Figures 1(a), 2(a) and 3(a) indicate input from the user.

b. Read input data, location and the pollutant value of PM2.5 from the input file named
input.txt”. The number of input data that will be read from the file is based on the number
of locations entered in (a). An example of the series of input data in the input file is shown in
Figure 4.

c. Calculate the API value using the formula given.

d. Based on the API value calculated; determine the air quality status.

e. Calculate the number of stars that represent API value. Each star (the character '*') represents
twenty (20) API value.

f. Calculate the average of API value.

g. Find the highest and lowest API value.

h. The output of this program should be displayed into the output file named “output.txt”. The
snapshots of the output file are as shown in Figures 1(b), 2(b) and 3(b). Display the output
telling the following information:
i. The location
ii. The calculated API value
iii. The corresponding air quality status
iv. Display a bar chart (using stars) for the API value. Each star (the character '*')
represents twenty (20) API value.
v. The highest API value
vi. The lowest API value
vii. The average API value

***I also add some extra coding in my source code that is to check the validity of number of location entered. if number entered is negative or more than 10, error message will appear and user need to enter another number. also, i add a prompt message at the end of the program where it tells the user to refer to output.txt file for the report. :3

below are figures from my question paper:
formula & status

and here's the screenshot of my code :

****I changed the output file name a bit coz this is my modified version of coding and I want to compare with the original one.

Some of the code is not seen clearly due to the loooong line. maybe you can figure out the 'hidden' code by yourself or if you need, you can download the source file. link is at the end of this post.

**depending on your IDE version, you may not see the prompt message I mentioned earlier. if that's the case, you need to add system("pause"); at the end of your main function.

Here's the output.txt screenshot for 10 inputs:

that's all for now. till we meet again. adios! ;)

personal blog #9 - brief update

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

ni hao guyssss. just a short update, I'm currently a first year student of software engineering at UTM. some may argue it's not the best decision, while others support me. above of all, I'll just try to do my very best here, insyaAllah!

sooooo, for the first sem here, I'm learning c++, thus will be sharing some later on. already got one reserved actually. but can't really promise when to share coz of my busy schedule and lazy to write. hehe.
some sneak peek

anyway, I'm currently working on a line following robot, using microcontroller, IR sensors and motor driver L293D. it's for UTM's Robocon Recruitment Minigame. currently stuck at programming part as it is walao~ even it's basically c language based, i still struggling to understand coz it's somewhat not THAT easy as what i learnt during foundation ~.~

last but not least, do pray my project will be a success thus i may share with you guyss (like, is there anyone reading this? lol). whatever. sayonara. oh, and salam awal muharram. :3

MENFITNAH SEMUDAH ABC!

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM W.B.T. peeps !

Zaman moden ni, senang gila la nak fitnah orang! cuma perlu ada komputer, pelayar internet & sambungan internet. silap haribulan budak tadika pun boleh buat. macam mana caranya? meh ikut steps yang aku tunjuk dalam gambar2 di bawah.. & korang akan sedar betapa mudahnya menfitnah berserta bukti, *kononnya!

Wahai orang-orang Yang beriman! jika datang kepada kamu seorang fasik membawa sesuatu berita, maka selidikilah (untuk menentukan) kebenarannya, supaya kamu tidak menimpakan sesuatu kaum Dengan perkara Yang tidak diingini - Dengan sebab kejahilan kamu (mengenainya) - sehingga menjadikan kamu menyesali apa Yang kamu telah lakukan.
Surah Al-Hujurat Ayat 6.

(Q.S. al-Buruj: 10)

NOTA KAKI: TUJUAN AKU BERKONGSI NI BUKAN NAK MENGGALAKKAN ORANG MENFITNAH, TAPI NAK SEDARKAN BETAPA MUDAHNYA DOSA BESAR NI BOLEH DIBUAT. MOGA2 SELEPAS INI KITA SELIDIK DAHULU "BERITA TERKINI" YANG KITA TERIMA SAMA ADA SAHIH ATAU TIDAK SEBELUM TEKAN 'SHARE', MENJADI KEYBOARD WARRIOR, WAIMA JADIKAN BAHAN SEMBANG DI KEDAI KOPI.

wallahua'lam. semoga Allah redha!
